GP Connect Patient Facing APIs
This page tracks GP Connect Patient Facing APIs as a distinct capability group.
Supported Conclusion
Patient Facing APIs let patients use an approved consumer application, such as the NHS App, to view their GP electronic health record, request repeat prescriptions, and retrieve permissions set by their GP practice.
Architecture Pattern
The architecture pattern is RESTful API via the NHS API platform. NHS England Digital distinguishes Patient Facing Access Record, Prescriptions, and User Permissions APIs under this capability group.
Evidence Status
Evidence status is high for the NHS taxonomy, but live use is constrained. NHS England Digital states that Patient Facing APIs are currently only available for New Market Entrant suppliers as data providers and are in use with the NHS App as the consumer; at the time noted on the page, additional consumer suppliers were not being onboarded.
