Scotland Connectivity Equivalents

This page tracks GP Connect-like and Spine-like services in Scotland.

Current Reading

Scotland should be read as a CHI, Emergency Care Summary / Key Information Summary, SCI Gateway, ePharmacy, MyCare.scot, and National Digital Platform context. These services cover some of the same functional ground as NHS England GP Connect and Spine services, but they are not the same national service or API family.

GP Connect-Like Routes

Scotland route Closest England comparison What it supports Boundary
Emergency Care Summary Summary Care Record / urgent-care GP summary access GP-practice-derived emergency summary information for authorised care staff. Summary view, not GP Connect Access Record.
Key Information Summary Enhanced care-summary sharing for unscheduled and anticipatory care GP-maintained key information for patients with complex needs or anticipatory-care requirements. Not a full GP record API.
SCI Gateway GP-to-secondary-care messaging / referral route Electronic clinical communications and referrals between primary and secondary care. Not GP Connect Send Document or Update Record.
Acute Medication Service / ePharmacy Electronic Prescription Service Electronic transfer of prescription data to support community pharmacy processing. Functional prescribing equivalent, not the England EPS.
MyCare.scot NHS App / patient-facing record access National digital front-door direction for patient-facing access to health and social care information. Not GP Connect patient-facing APIs; rollout and feature depth should be checked by date.

Spine-Like Routes

Scotland route Closest Spine service function What it supports Boundary
Community Health Index PDS / NHS Number identity function National Scottish patient identifier and core NHS Scotland identity infrastructure. Different identifier, system, and governance from NHS Number / PDS.
National Digital Platform National platform / API / data-access layer Common cloud-based platform components, APIs, production services, and data access for health and care services. Strategic platform direction, not a replacement label for Spine.
Emergency Care Summary and Key Information Summary Summary Care Record / care-summary sharing GP-practice-derived summary information for direct care. Not GP Connect and not a full shared care record.
SCI Gateway e-RS / messaging / document exchange functions Electronic referral and clinical communication. Not a Spine Directory Service or MESH clone in this evidence set.

InterSystems Boundary

Scotland has separate InterSystems evidence for Edinburgh office presence, broad TrakCare Patient Management System context, NHS Shetland TrakCare ED / Ensemble, and vendor TrakCare examples. TrakCare Patient Management System (PMS) and TrakCare ED are source or local system labels for TrakCare in specific patient-management and emergency-department settings, not separate national connectivity services. That evidence is tracked on InterSystems in Scotland. The current evidence does not show InterSystems involvement in ECS, KIS, SCI Gateway, CHI, or the National Digital Platform.

Domain Split Trigger

Before creating a devolved-nations evidence-domain page, recheck the promotion trigger in Source and Evidence Domain Map. This page should remain a country connectivity module unless future work repeatedly needs to traverse all devolved connectivity pages, all InterSystems-by-nation pages, and the canonical registers for the same cross-nation question.

Follow-up Evidence

  • Add current technical architecture sources for ECS, KIS, and SCI Gateway.
  • Find National Digital Platform API and FHIR implementation details where public.
  • Validate whether any current Scotland roadmap explicitly references GP Connect before changing the boundary.
