GP Connect Service Context

Supported Conclusion

GP Connect is an NHS service, not an InterSystems product. NHS England Digital describes it as a national service that securely connects approved clinical and care systems to GP records for approved direct patient care outside GP practices and an approved medical-examiner use case.

Staff use GP Connect through existing clinical or care systems rather than a standalone GP Connect website. Organisations cannot sign up directly outside approved software, onboarding, assurance, intended-use, and product-capability routes.

Scope Constraints

  • GP Connect supports approved direct patient care and medical examiners reviewing deceased patients' records within 28 days after death. The medical-examiner route requires an approved supplier use case and updated DPIA/NDSA arrangements; it does not open general secondary use or reporting.
  • It is not a replacement for local clinical systems or local records.
  • Supplier access depends on onboarding and assurance as well as product capability.

Current Onboarding Boundary

The GP Connect service page, edited 1 September 2026 and checked on 8 September 2026, says that new developers can no longer onboard through GP Connect for Update Record, Send Document, or Appointment Management. Existing consumer suppliers can still onboard their end users, and some end users retain these products through suppliers that developed them previously.

Effective DSIC standards, production API listings, and older developer instructions inviting use-case submissions do not establish an open new-developer route. For an integration proposal, first establish whether an existing assured consumer route covers the supplier, product and workflow, or obtain current route confirmation from the service owner. This restriction does not by itself establish service withdrawal or an InterSystems product's status.

Confidence is high for the NHS service definition because the source is NHS England Digital. This page does not prove any specific InterSystems implementation, deployment, assurance status, or customer go-live.
