Wales Connectivity Equivalents
The hospital estate baseline, shared-record matrix and diagnostic platform matrix distinguish WPAS, Welsh Clinical Portal, phased LIMS/RISP and local exceptions.
This page maps Wales's healthcare connectivity services, from the network and patient identity through record access, clinical messages, medicines and diagnostics. Use the UK Healthcare Connectivity Landscape for the four-nation view and Diagnostic Results and Image Exchange for the distinction between a test result, a report and an image.
Current Reading
Wales is best read through Digital Health and Care Wales national services rather than NHS England GP Connect. The closest functional routes are Welsh GP Record, Welsh Clinical Portal, Welsh Clinical Communications Gateway, GP2GP, NHS Wales App, the National Data Resource / Care Data Repository direction, NHS Wales FHIR standards alignment, and the Welsh Demographic Service relationship with PDS.
Wales can reuse NHS England infrastructure without adopting every England service or procurement framework. DHCW's EPS privacy notice says Welsh prescribing and dispensing systems exchange prescriptions through NHS Spine, with pharmacy nominations in PDS and appropriate smartcard permissions. The current Spine page explicitly includes Wales and the Isle of Man in its service scope.
The 27 April 2026 DHCW medicines update reports EPS use in 181 GP practices and 648 community pharmacies as of 16 April, while targeting all Welsh GP practices by 30 November 2026. The target remains a plan rather than completed national coverage. Separately, DHCW reported Cardiff and Vale encounter data flowing into the Care Data Repository on 19 January 2026, with national FHIR mapping. This is a named operational data flow, not proof of complete NDR/CDR coverage or an InterSystems implementation.
The network, clinical portal and diagnostic systems perform different jobs. PSBA provides connectivity; WDS supports patient demographics; WCP presents clinical information; LIMS processes laboratory work; and RISP covers radiology information, images and dose management. InterSystems evidence attaches to the laboratory system, while the RISP award names Philips.

Status below describes the cited evidence checked on 15 September 2026. A reported go-live applies to its stated service, organisation and date; a programme target is not completion evidence.

Organisation Reference Data
The Welsh Reference Data and Terminology Service (WRTS) maintains all-Wales organisation/site codes and a national reference-data repository. Organisation identity is distinct from patient demographics in WDS and from locating an application's service endpoint. See the UK Core Services Matrix for the four-nation comparison.
Portals and Record Access
The professional portal, the GP summary service and the patient app expose different information and actions. Availability depends on the source data, the participating service and the user's access; a national product name does not mean every feature is available everywhere.

WCP combines information from source services rather than replacing every departmental system. DHCW's January 2026 evidence identifies existing national stores such as the Welsh Care Records Service and WDS, with the CDR intended to replace them over time. Named NDR-based services already include WCP growth charts and hospital appointments shown in the NHS Wales App; this does not establish that all portal content has migrated to CDR.
WCP's 28 May 2026 update provides direct access to future-care-plan documents and indicates documents that have been updated or withdrawn. Other features have narrower availability: the 2025/26 annual report describes the Workflow Action List as a Cwm Taf Morgannwg trial and electronic Operation Notes as released to early adopters.
NHS Wales App Feature Availability
The current help pages distinguish these functions as of the 15 September 2026 check:

The January 2026 ministerial statement announced further records, results and caregiver features. Current help still describes Authorised access for family members/carers as in development; it should not be presented as generally available. Use the individual feature guidance above to interpret that roadmap.
Additional GP Connectivity Functions
The 29 September 2026 review extends the comparison beyond portals and diagnostics. The matrix separates access, registration and GP transactions, safety, prevention and care planning, and coding, reporting and payments.
Actual service reuse is evidenced at specific layers. The April 2025 Welsh identity standard confirms that NHS England provides NHS login on behalf of Wales; clinical authorisation remains local to each service. This does not establish Welsh adoption of England's September 2026 DSIC provisioning or patient-facing API versions.
The November 2025 Audit Wales report, report pp.8–9, records Welsh NHAIS replacement completed in July 2024. PCRM provides demographic registration/reporting for England and Wales; enhanced WDS feeds Family Practitioner Payment System (FPPS) capitation calculations. NI BSO develops and supplies FPPS under a service agreement, with a Welsh-specific environment. These are concrete cross-border services, alongside the Spine/EPS reuse above; they do not prove conformance of an individual GP product or registration API. See what actually crosses borders.

Urgent Care Routing
The 29 September 2026 comparison separates public access, triage, service discovery and clinical handoff. Use the four-nation urgent-care matrix for the parallel England, Scotland and Northern Ireland routes.
NHS 111 Wales is a national, 24/7 access service, offering telephone advice and access to urgent primary care, alongside Welsh online symptom checkers and local-service search. GP out-of-hours delivery remains health-board organised. 111 press 2 connects people of all ages to their local mental-health team at any time without requiring a GP referral.

Actual cross-border routing is documented: border callers can be asked to choose England or Wales, and the two 111 services can refer a person to an appropriate service across the border according to their GP registration and needs. This supports a cross-border care pathway, not a shared triage engine, directory or booking API.
The 2026–29 plan treats symptom-checker renewal, further digital/telephone integration and a single 999/111 clinical queue as development work. The May 2026 report places the replacement symptom checkers in testing. Do not equate the existing website with completed delivery of every planned feature, or add a current Med IS marker without user evidence.
Laboratory Results and Image Exchange
WCP is a front end to national Welsh Results Reporting Service (WRRS), Electronic Test Requesting (ETR) and GP Test Requesting (GPTR) functions. Requesting a pathology or radiology test is distinct from viewing its report or image. DHCW's 2026 annual report describes continuing ETR rollout, including pathology and radiology requests; do not equate national product scope with universal site adoption. The same report describes EPS use across all Welsh health boards with GP rollout still progressing towards November 2026.
DHCW's February 2026 committee pack reports TrakCare Lab Enterprise technical go-live and data migration for LIMS Tranche 1. The January accountability paper also reports the first cellular-pathology milestone. These are steps in replacing the existing laboratory system; neither establishes completed migration across every discipline or interface.
The same committee pack reports RISP live at Public Health Wales, Powys, Betsi Cadwaladr and Hywel Dda, with Hywel Dda going live on 1 December 2025. It records GP Links/IUVO interfaces for Hywel Dda, Betsi Cadwaladr and Powys, and cross-border image viewing in Powys. The March 2026 draft escalation plan still sets later 2026 migration and closure milestones. Keep these dated milestones separate from confirmed completion.
The RISP award identifies Philips as prime contractor supplying PACS directly, with RIS and patient dose management through subcontractors. It does not name InterSystems. A laboratory result reaching WCP or WRRS and an image accessed through RISP are distinct exchanges, even when they support the same clinical encounter.

InterSystems Boundary
Wales has strong InterSystems evidence for all-Wales LIMS 2.0 / TrakCare Lab Enterprise, tracked on InterSystems in Wales. The September 2023 board paper describes existing TrakCare Lab 2016 interfaces with Welsh Clinical Portal for test booking and Welsh Results Reporting Service for results, with those interfaces in scope to move to TrakCare Lab Enterprise. This establishes a laboratory-system connection to national clinical services; it does not establish InterSystems as the supplier of WCP or WRRS, or confirm completion of the interface migration.
The current evidence does not show InterSystems supplying PSBA, WDS, Welsh GP2GP, Welsh GP Record, WCCG, NHS Wales App, RISP or NDR/CDR. Keep national-service ownership separate from a connected InterSystems laboratory system.

Follow-up Evidence
- For a proposed professional connection, obtain current local WCP/WGPR permissions and the relevant WCCG or test-request workflow specification; the public service descriptions do not supply a complete role or interface catalogue.
- Add current DHCW technical or supplier evidence before treating Welsh GP2GP as an InterSystems route.
- Use the documented WCP booking / WRRS results interfaces as the baseline when checking completed TrakCare Lab Enterprise migration; assess any CDR/NDR connection separately.
- Check the latest discipline-specific LIMS acceptance and organisation-specific RISP completion against the dated rollout evidence before claiming national completion.
- Confirm whether any Welsh source explicitly adopts GP Connect terminology before changing the boundary.
