UK Clinical Platform Estate

A UK-wide, source-linked baseline checked 25 September 2026. This topic identifies shared-care-record providers, hospital EPR/PAS products, EpicCare Link deployments, and diagnostic ordering, results, laboratory and imaging platforms. Use the interactive map to filter the evidence by nation, region, supplier, product role and status.

The baseline contains 193 scoped observations, supported by 168 source URLs. It includes a programme crosswalk for all 36 current English ICBs, all 14 Scottish territorial boards, all seven Welsh health boards, and all five Northern Ireland HSC trust regions. This is geographic coverage of the research, including explicit unknowns; it is not a complete census of every trust, site, laboratory, discipline or installed module. England’s hospital and diagnostic rows are selected, with emphasis on Epic, Oracle Health/Cerner and Nervecentre.

Where to start

Question Evidence page
Where is InterSystems the shared-record supplier, and who supplies other areas? Shared Care Record Providers: programme-level evidence, transitions, unknowns and the 36-ICB crosswalk.
Which hospitals use Epic, Cerner/Millennium, Nervecentre or alternatives? Hospital EHR Estate and EpicCare Link: current and replacement observations, with external portals separately listed.
What do clinicians use to order tests and view results, and what operates the department? Diagnostic Order Comms and Results: pathology/radiology front ends, LIMS, RIS/PACS and laboratory exchange.
How do these observations relate geographically? UK Clinical Platform Map: filters, sources, geographic limitations and downloadable CSV/JSON.
How do these local estates connect through national services? UK Healthcare Connectivity Landscape, UK Core Services Matrix and Diagnostic Results and Image Exchange.

Keep the product roles separate

Layer Typical products in this baseline What it does not establish
Shared care record / regional clinical viewer HealthShare; Oracle HIE; Graphnet; Orion; Interweave; Black Pear; Welsh Clinical Portal The core hospital EPR, all-provider coverage, or a uniform national record.
Hospital clinical EPR or administration Epic; Oracle Millennium; Nervecentre; TrakCare; Sunrise; CareFlow; Lorenzo; MEDITECH; locally developed systems; WPAS Every clinical module, department, external portal or interface. PMS/PAS evidence is narrower than full clinical EPR evidence.
External professional portal EpicCare Link Automatic access, a full copy of the EPR, an open API, patient-facing MyChart, or universal ordering rights.
Diagnostic ordering and results ICE; tQuest/Review; EPR order entry; WCP ETR/GPTR/WRRS The laboratory production system or the imaging archive.
Departmental systems and exchange WinPath, Beaker, TrakCare Lab; CRIS, Soliton RIS, Sectra PACS; Labgnostic The clinician’s order-entry screen or the shared-record supplier.

The distinctions matter in practice. London’s InterSystems Health Connect integration work does not make London Care Record a HealthShare deployment. Royal Devon’s Epic EPR does not establish Epic Radiant: its radiology evidence identifies CRIS and a continuing regional decision. Welsh TrakCare Lab does not make Welsh Clinical Portal an InterSystems product. The linked subject pages retain the evidence for each boundary.

Reading dates and gaps

Each observation records organisation, programme footprint, supplier, product, function, reported status, evidence/milestone date, scope, limitations and primary links. Checked means the source was reviewed; it does not mean a production deployment was tested. A contract or target date is not a completed go-live. Historical and replacement rows remain visible so a planned product does not silently overwrite an existing one.

Unknown means this research has not verified the named supplier or scope. It does not mean no system exists. Counts represent observations, not unique customers, full EPR installations, supplier market share or patient coverage. Multiple observations can describe one organisation or a programme spanning several regions.

England’s April 2026 commissioner changes make legacy footprints especially important: Bedfordshire/Luton, Milton Keynes, Cambridgeshire/Peterborough and Hertfordshire can remain separate technology programmes within the new Central East ICB. The statutory geography and programme footprint are separate fields. See NHS England’s current ICB baseline and ODS changes.

Reusable evidence and tooling

The canonical dataset under data/uk-platforms/ generates the article tables and map downloads together. Source IDs remain in the Source Register; synthesis claims and open validation work remain in the Evidence Matrix and Evidence Validation Queue.

Read-only exploration of DShCR, NHS Data Sharing, X-Lab, DMICP InterOp, EPMA, Digital Healthcare Delivery, dmsGIS and veloGIS informed the geography crosswalk, terminology boundaries and map approach. Public source links were checked for the estate claims. Only allowlisted public geographic properties were reused; private operational and assurance documents were not republished. The map uses pinned Leaflet 1.9.4, local assets and no external tile service. See the map provenance for vintages and attribution.
